The Stars at Night

I like looking at the stars at night. A room in the attic, with a window ever facing the moon. I love imagining a world bigger than ours, more beautiful than ours. I loved imagining aliens different from how mass media showed them. In my mind, they weren't green and didn't have three fingers on each hand. They will not come with laser guns and spaceships and conquer humans. And, they will not land in the USA.
One night, no different from any other, I was lying in bed and, as usual, watching the stars. I was counting them, connecting them and thinking of small worlds every one of those held. Lying there, in trance, my thoughts wandered away... to discrimination, society, differences, war...
    A shooting star!
    "I want change!", i whispered.
I stood there, not aware that I have gotten out of bed and stood in front of the open window. I watched as the star got closer and closer, waiting for it to disappear at any moment... but it didn't. Instead it just kept coming closer and closer, until i could see a blue, round sphere, leaving behind a trail of same color. Before I knew what was happening, I was on the ground with something small and blue in my hands.
I looked down and saw something I couldn't explain. My first reaction was to scream, but i glued my lips together and stayed quiet. It was a baby, blue-skinned, with one big black eye and two horns on it's cheeks. Honestly, it was adorable. I didn't know what to do, I was completely in shock. It started shaking in my arms, so I pulled it closer to me. I didn't have a clue what it was, or how it got here, was it the only one, or were there more like it. So many questions, just piling in my head and I couldn't explain any of them.
Does it really have the cure for cancer? Is it really here to make the world a better place? Or will it destroy it, leaving nothing behind? But... How can something so innocent possibly do any harm? Should I show it to the world? I glanced at the newspaper on the floor beside me. "Hooligans beat up Muslim boy after a ball game". No, I can most definitely not show it. Who knows what they would do to him? What would most people think in my place? Destroy, run, hide, kill... No, it's just a baby! I must protect him!
But then, as fast as first time, the blue baby was surrounded by a blue sphere, and after letting out a single giggle, it rose up and flew out through the window. I jumped up and ran, trying to see where it went, but it was gone. I didn't know what to think, when a thought came to my mind. Maybe it is a message. Yes, that must be it! I inhaled air and was about to scream from the top of my lungs "Aliens!", but then a blue sprehe passed by. Too quickly to be noticed, but it was there, and I know that because it left something small, like a blue, glowing grain of sand, falling to my hand, which was reaching out to grab it. At that moment I knew that, whatever this encounter was, it was not a message, it was not a grand arrival. Whatever it was, it was just for me.
And there it was, my wish came true. Change has come.
